Roosevelt is one of the largest public schools in Maryland with 2,764 students and 137 faculty and staff.

Roosevelt was recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a Blue Ribbon School in 1991 and 1998. It was also recognized by the Department of Education as a New American High School in 1999-2000. It has also been awarded the 2002-2003 Siemens Award for Advanced Placement. In 2002, it was recognized as a National School of Character by the Character Education Partnership in Washington, D.C.

Roosevelt is also the Science and Technology Center for the northern part of Prince Georges County, and is a member of the National Consortium for Specialized Secondary Schools of Mathematics, Science, and Technology. NCSSSMST Roosevelt has classes ranging from Japanese I, Child Development, and Television Productions to Bio-Organic Chemistry, Calculus, and a variety of Technology Courses. Roosevelt boasts eight Foreign Languages, and has a media center with over 25,000 books.

Greenbelt Middle School is a comprehensive school created to serve a multicultural, suburban student population in grades six, seven, and eight. The primary purpose of Greenbelt Middle School is to help students develop excellent academic skills, provide effective instructional programs, and support students in becoming productive citizens in the school and the community. Greenbelt Middle School is the Talented and Gifted Center (TAG magnet) for the northern part of the county.
