  2. HERE TO STAY- The Music of the Greenbelt Pioneers

    September 30, 7:00 PM - 10:00 PM @ Greenbelt Community Center

    When the first families moved into Greenbelt on September 30, 1937, American Big Band music was at its peak. It on the airwaves, and songs by Gershwin, Ellington and other songwriting titans helped to keep Greenbelters’ toes tapping and hearts singing in their new town. This fall, on the 80th anniversary of the pioneers’ arrival, that music will have the same joyful effect on you! Join host Chris Cherry and pianist Stefan Brodd for an entertaining program featuring talented Greenbelt vocalists, classic film clips, and lively commentary. FREE, but tickets are required. Greenbelt National Public Lands Day Greenbelt National Park, Sweetgum Picnic Area Visit the park after hours for a nostalgic look at America when Greenbelt Park was only 12 years old in the 1960s. Enjoy this iconic movie about coming of age at the end of summer 1962 with Richard Dreyfuss, Ron Howard, Harrison Ford, Paul Le Mat, Candy Clark, Wolfman Jack, and Cindy Williams.
