City of Greenbelt Feeder Upgrade
Maryland Fact Sheet
Background
Pepco is committed to providing safe and reliable electric service to more than 500,000 customers in Maryland. In September 2010, Pepco announced an extensive plan to upgrade reliability. This plan advances the company’s work on existing reliability enhancement programs as well as incorporates new activities that will reduce the frequency and duration of outages for our customers. The total cost of these improvements throughout our Maryland service area is estimated at $256.3 million over the five-year period from 2011 to 2015.
Description of Greenbelt Upgrades
Pepco plans to upgrade two major power lines, also known as feeders. A feeder is an electric power line that distributes power to up to 1,100 customers in a specific geographic area. The following projects are slated to be completed by the middle of 2013.
Project Plan Description
In order to improve reliability throughout the City of Greenbelt’s service territory, Pepco will be undertaking several upgrades and replacements along this feeder. Pepco will be upgrading 18,000 feet of primary open wire with tree wire, 40,000 feet of secondary open wire with triplex, and upgrading/replacing 536 poles. Additional project work includes the upgrading/replacing 240 transformers, 170 cross arms, 300 fuses, 600 animal guards, 50 lighting arrestors,
By making these improvements, we will ensure that residents living and working in Greenbelt have a safe and reliable supply of power long into the future. We will also be performing inspection and tree trimming as needed.
