Dear Student,
Thank you for your interest in volunteering for the ACE Reading Club. The ACE Reading Club is a community-based youth reading program that strives to inspire and encourage students to read and enjoy books, develop a life long interest in reading, and explore a basic skill for success. The Club is voluntary and open to all children in grades K thru 12 who attend school or live in Greenbelt. The Club visits local schools and hosts several special programs and events throughout the year to promote the motto “reading is fun!” As a volunteer for the ACE Reading Club, you will have the opportunity to help plan, facilitate, and evaluate a variety of programs. Programs include Club meetings, Book-It television tapings, Book Buddies, Teen Book Discussions, Parent/ Child Book Discussions, the Literary Magazine Project, Youth Writing Contest, Essay Contest, Coloring Contest, Greenbelt Youth Literary Showcase, and other projects. Please read through Volunteer section of our website for more detailed information on programs offered by the ACE Reading Club. Time commitment varies with each program. Although students volunteering with the ACE Reading Club are strongly encouraged to set up a regular schedule with the Program Coordinator to ensure that you receive service hours, it is not required. In order to become a volunteer you must complete and return the Volunteer Information Form. Part of this form requires that your parent or guardian read and sign a waiver. Once we receive your completed form, we will contact you regarding your eligibility and possible service hour dates available to you. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at 301-345-6660, or email lmurray@greenbeltmd.gov. Thank you and we look forward to working with you! Sincerely,
