ELECTION INFORMATION

Beginning with the 2009 Election, the City of Greenbelt elects a seven-member City Council every other year. The Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem are chosen by the City Council, the members are elected at large, with the highest vote getter traditionally being selected as mayor and the second highest as Mayor Pro Tem.  The following pages contain information about local, county, state and federal elections.

Absentee Ballots: Beginning with the 2005 City election, any qualified voter is entitled to vote by absentee ballot, without providing any reason or excuse. Click here for more information on Absentee Ballots.Early Voting: There will be several opportunities provided for early voting throughout the City of Greenbelt. Click here for locations and schedule.Election Precincts : The City is divided in five election precincts.  On Election Day, you must vote at the designated polling place for you precinct.  (NOTE: locations for City Elections are different than those for the General Election.) Nominations for City Council: In accordance with Section 14 of the City Charter, a regular election will be held in the City of Greenbelt, Maryland, on Tuesday, November 5, 2013, to elect the seven members of the City Council. Any qualified voter of the City may be nominated for the office of Member of Council upon filing a nomination petition with the City Clerk (signed by not fewer than 50 Greenbelt resident voters), a written acceptance of the nomination, and other statements that are required by the City Charter or by law. Required forms and information are available in the City Clerk’s office, 25 Crescent Road, from 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

Registering to Vote: You must be registered to vote with Prince George's County in order to vote in the City Election.  Click here for more information on Registration.
