MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION
held Saturday, April 18, 1998,
for the purpose of holding a work planning retreat with senior staff.

The meeting began at 9:00 AM. It was held in the Council Room of the Municipal Building.
PRESENT WERE: Council members Edward V.J. Putens, Rodney M. Roberts, Alan Turnbull, Thomas X. White and Mayor Judith F. Davis.
STAFF PRESENT WERE: Michael P. McLaughlin, City Manager; Robert Manzi, City Solicitor; W. Bowman Ferguson, Management Analyst; James Craze, Police Chief; Hank Irving, Director of Recreation; Carol Leventhal, Director of CARES; Kenny Hall, Acting Director of Public Works; Jeff Williams, City Treasurer, and Celia Craze, Director of Planning and Community Development.
ALSO PRESENT WERE Monika Thompson and Consuela Barbour, Institute for Governmental Service (facilitators).
Everyone present analyzed the following five priority issues and identified specific problems and solutions:
Fiscal Sustainability
Greenbelt West Integration
Enhanced Youth Services
Changing Demographics
Increase Technology and Technology Education
The Council agreed to set a future work session to further process the action steps associated with each of these priorities.
The meeting was adjourned at 4:00 PM.
