MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION
held Wednesday, June 17, 1998
for the purpose of considering Council Goals.
The meeting began at 8:15 p.m. It was held in the Library of the Municipal Building.
PRESENT WERE: Council members Edward V.J. Putens, Rodney M. Roberts, Alan Turnbull, Thomas X. White and Mayor Judith F. Davis.
STAFF PRESENT WERE: Michael P. McLaughlin, City Manager; David E. Moran, City Clerk and W. Bowman Ferguson, Management Analyst.
Mr. McLaughlin began by asking "what is the objective?" He stated that the present list exceeded a two year program and stated that there had been no "sifting" process. He outlined several options for proceeding: prioritize by using a certain number of items; use the document as a reference point; or lay out an action plan on each item.
Mr. Putens favored prioritizing sub-items within each item. Mr. White favored prioritizing, but removing long-term items. Mr. Turnbull and Mr. Roberts supported this approach. Council reviewed the list of solutions and identified items as short term (within two years) and long term. Then, Council reviewed the short term list and deleted certain items.
Council asked staff to revise the list, based on their direction and bring it back to Council for another work session to prioritize. They wanted to schedule this meeting as soon as possible.
The meeting was adjourned at 10:35 p.m.
Respectfully Submitted,
David E. Moran
City Clerk
