MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION/LEGISLATIVE DINNER
held Friday, June 19, 1998 at the Greenbelt Marriott for
the purpose of discussing Federal Legislative Issues

The meeting began at 7:00 p.m.
PRESENT WERE: Council members Edward V.J. Putens, Rodney M. Roberts, Alan Turnbull, Thomas X. White and Mayor Judith F. Davis.
ALSO PRESENT WERE: Steny Hoyer, Congressman; Cory Alexander and Andy Quinn, Aides to Congressman Hoyer; Jeanie Laserov, Aide to Senator Sarbanes; Anthony Lawrence, Aide to Senator Mikulski; Michael P. McLaughlin, City Manager; David E. Moran, City Clerk and Virginia Beauchamp, Greenbelt News Review
Mayor Davis welcomed everyone and thanked the federal representatives for attending. The Mayor presented the following issues:
- Strategies for preserving federal open space
- Future of Greenbelt Park and the B/W Parkway
- Acquire Jaeger Tract for Greenbelt Park
- BARC Modernization Program & NASA Funding
- Update on Federal Development Projects
- Modifications to Beltway Interchange at Greenbelt Metro
- Amending FOIA
- Transportation of Nuclear Waste
- Federal Bankruptcy Proceedings
Council discussed each issue and solicited feedback from Congressman Hoyer and the other representatives present. Everyone agreed that the dinner meeting had been enjoyable and productive. When asked if there was a better time of year to meet, Mr. Hoyer indicated that February/March would be a good time-of-year for future meetings.
The meeting was adjourned at 10:25 p.m.
