MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION
Held Thursday, May 27, 1999
For the purpose of a Briefing on the Mother and Child Statue Restoration.

The meeting began at 8:15 p.m. It was held at the Roosevelt Center Mall.

PRESENT WERE: Council members Rodney M. Roberts, Alan Turnbull, Edward V.J. Putens, and Mayor Judith F. Davis.

STAFF PRESENT WERE: Michael P. McLaughlin, City Manager

Council members were briefed by Sharon Koehler on her work to date to conserve and restore the Mother and Child Statue

While she was generally pleased with the work, Ms. Koehler emphasized that previous efforts of painting and sandblasting the statue have caused the statue to have lost its original surface with the artist’s chisel cuts. In response to inquiries, Ms. Koehler noted that she expected to be done in June and would provide a report on the statue including a recommended maintenance plan.

There was discussion and agreement to remove the pine tree closest to the statue on the right. Council returned to the Municipal Building Library.

The meeting ended at 8:50 p.m.

Respectfully Submitted,

Michael P. McLaughlin

City Manager
