MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION
Held Wednesday, April 26, 2000
For purposes of reviewing candidates for a State Highway Administration
task force on Greenbelt Road

The meeting began at 7:35 p.m. It was held in the Multipurpose Room
of the Community Center.
PRESENT WERE: Council members Rodney M. Roberts and Alan Turnbull, and
Mayor Judith F. Davis. Mr. Thomas X. White arrived shortly after the
meeting began.
STAFF PRESENT: David E. Moran, Assistant to the City Manager; Kathleen
Gallagher, City Clerk.
By the deadline, seven people had either requested or been nominated
for consideration for five positions on the task force being set up by
the State Highway Administration (SHA) for their Neighborhood Conservation
Project to improve Greenbelt Road.
Council discussed various criteria for the composition of the task force
and agreed that, in addition to the request from SHA that someone with
sensory disability be considered, such factors as length of residence,
knowledge of environmental, planning, or design issues, and representation
from Greenbelt’s three sectors be included.
The meeting was temporarily adjourned at 7:55 p.m. for another work
session. It was briefly resumed following that meeting at about 1:20
a.m. on Thursday, April 27. At this time, Councilmember Edward V. J.
Putens had joined the group and Mr. Turnbull had departed.
Council reached preliminary agreement on the applications and nominations
that were currently in house and wished to consider further the following
five: Joyce Chestnut, Bill Clarke, Scott Fifield, John Pak, and Steve
Perez.
The meeting was adjourned at 1:30 a.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Kathleen Gallagher
City Clerk
