MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION held Monday, February 5, 2001,
for the purpose of meeting with representatives of the Golden Triangle.
The meeting began at 8:18 p.m. It was held in the Council Room of the
Municipal Building.
PRESENT WERE: Councilmembers Rodney M. Roberts and Edward V.J. Putens,
and Mayor Pro-Tem Alan Turnbull.
STAFF PRESENT WERE: Michael P. McLaughlin, City Manager and David E. Moran,
Assistant to the City Manager
ALSO PRESENT WERE: Robert L. Baker, Property Manager for Harbert Realty
Services and Judy Bell, News Review
Mr. Baker stated that his company managed the two office buildings behind
Friday’s. He indicated that the property was up for sale.
Mr. Baker reported a positive relationship with City employees, particularly
Community Development Inspector, Willie Davis. He also complemented the
Police department, particularly during the Bell Atlantic situation. Mr.
Baker expressed appreciation for the Fire Department as well.
Mr. Turnbull asked about the commercial alarm program. Mr. Baker responded
that his tenants had not been fined.
Mr. Baker stated that the new owner of the property would likely be Atlantic
Realty. He indicated that the new owners might be interested in developing
the adjoining vacant property. He also reported that Atlantic Realty was
a local company and was in a growth mode.
Mr. Putens asked what other things the City could do for the business
community. Mr. Baker responded that the City needs a fine dining restaurant,
particularly for business lunches.
Mr. Baker noted that his major tenants were Cellular One, now Cingular
and Verizon. He noted other tenants were mostly mortgage companies and
some attorneys. There was also a credit card processing office. He reported
that the tenants felt very safe there.
The meeting ended at 8:50 p.m.
