WORK SESSION OF THE GREENBELT CITY COUNCIL, held Wednesday, July 13, 2005,
for the purpose of reviewing the Capital Projects budget for FY 2006.
Mayor Davis called the meeting to order at 8:05 PM. It was held in the
Senior Classroom of the Community Center.
PRESENT WERE Mayor Judith Davis, Mayor pro tem Rodney Roberts, and Councilmembers
Konrad Herling and Leta Mach.
ALSO PRESENT WERE Sheldon Goldberg of Windsor Green, David Moran, Assistant
City Manager, Jeff Williams, City Treasurer, Celia Craze, Director of Planning
and Community Development, and Michael McLaughlin, City Manager.
Mr. Moran reviewed for Council how it is expected to finish FY 2005 and
an updated list for FY 2006 which includes a few reprogrammed projects.
It was noted that an additional $10,000 should be listed for City Drainage
Problems for a total of $30,000. Other than that, Council was satisfied
with the list. The matter will be placed on the August agenda.
There was a discussion of the status of a few projects: the skateboard
park, observatory, and Public Works facility. It was noted that these projects
were being held up due to the issues related to the RPC zoning.
Informational items: Ms. Mach reported on a conversation with Dorrie Bates
of the COOP supermarket about the proposal for a contract postal unit.
At this time, the COOP believes the matter may not make sense to them in
terms of space needed and cost figures. Staff will do some work on contacting
the Postal Service to meet with possible vendors.
It was noted that the New Deal Café is looking into the possibility
of expanding into the video space. There were questions about code issues
and whether New Deal could afford expansion.
A majority of Councilmembers were supportive of pursuing street banners
through the Anacostia Trails Heritage Area (ATHA) and the Route 1 Economic
Development Initiative (EDI).
There was discussion of how the tour went with Lieutenant Governor Steele.
Everyone seemed pleased with the results.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:15 PM.
Respectfully submitted,
Michael McLaughlin
City Manager
