BUDGET WORK SESSION of the Greenbelt City Council held May 7, 2007, for the purpose of reviewing the Green Ridge House section of the Proposed FY 2008 Budget.
Mayor Davis started the meeting at 7:36 p.m. It was held in the Dining Room at Green Ridge House.
PRESENT WERE: Councilmembers Konrad E. Herling, Leta M. Mach, Edward V.J. Putens, Rodney M. Roberts and Mayor Judith F. Davis.
CITY STAFF PRESENT WERE: Michael P. McLaughlin, City Manager and David E. Moran, Assistant City Manager.
Green Ridge House Residents Association President Ward began by welcoming the City Council and introducing the members of the GRH Board.
Lynnette McGrath, property manager, highlighted the accomplishments for FY 2007. Mr. McLaughlin reported that capital improvements to Green Ridge House were continuing and this was to be expected given the age of the facility. He noted that while reserves were being drawn down, it was proposed to double the replacement reserve transfer for FY 2008. Mr. McLaughlin listed the capital improvements proposed for FY 2008.
Mayor Davis asked several questions about the detailed budget book from Green Ridge House. Ms. McGrath responded. Ms. Mach also asked questions and Ms. McGrath provided answers to these questions also.
Jim Bowles stated the need for more activities for male residents. He suggested acquiring FEMA trailers that could be used for hobbies such as woodworking.
A resident asked if the carpet on the first floor porch could be replaced. Another resident asked if the porches could be screened.
Marian Evans asked how soon the computers would be replaced. Ms. McGrath responded that staff was still evaluating options for replacing the computers.
Several residents expressed concern about the condition of the exercise equipment in the fitness room and the need to replace it. Council asked that City Recreation staff evaluate the fitness equipment and provide advice on its condition.
Duane Bowman stated the lounge furniture on the second floor was in poor condition and needed replacement.
Mayor Davis concluded by stating that all the items raised by residents would be considered and she thanked everyone for participating. The meeting ended at 8:10 p.m.
