Greenbelt CARES
About the Program
Established in 1974, Greenbelt CARES is a community based, family oriented counseling program dedicated to promoting responsible behavior and appropriate family management skills. We provide counseling services for families at our Wednesday Night Family Clinic, and individuals and families may receive counseling services on other days and times as available. We also offer weekly group counseling services to our local schools.

Crisis Counseling
Our Crisis Intervention Counselors work in collaboration with the Greenbelt Police Department to offer immediate services to individuals who come into contact with the police, often as a result of a crime or other emergency situation.

Education / Work
Our Vocational / Educational Counselor offers GED preparatory classes, an individual and group tutoring program to assist students in school, and an ODD JOBS/JOB BANK program, to help people with the world of work and help citizens with odd jobs around the community.

Anger Management Training
CARES offers an Anger Management training two times a year.  Participants learn constructive strategies to handle conflict in their daily lives.  The training is nine sessions long and is offered on Monday evenings.  Participants must attend all 9 sessions to complete the training and receive a certificate of completion.

SMART Recovery
SMART Recovery is the leading self-empowering addiction recovery support group. CARES began offering this group in the Fall of 2016. CARES counselors facilitate the group where
participants learn tools for addiction recovery. The SMART Recovery 4-Point Program® helps people recover from all types of addiction and addictive behaviors.

Local Resources
We maintain an up-to-date referral listing of local resources, such as support groups and shelters. Many of our services are free of charge and available to Greenbelt residents and those in surrounding communities.

So, be sure to visit "Quick Tips" where we hope to offer you a new perspective on issues, provide new techniques and different solutions to the challenges families face.
