Tutoring Program
Saturday Morning Drop-in Tutoring Program
Students in grades 1 - 12 and those preparing for the GED exam may receive Free tutoring services on Saturday mornings. Volunteer tutors assist the students in a variety of academic subjects, such as, language arts, mathematics, history, social studies, and political science.

Afterschool Homework Help Club and Tutoring Program - Fall 2016
Students attending Springhill Lake Elementary are invited to attend the Homework Help Club.
Where: Springhill Lake Recreation Center Clubhouse
6101 Cherrywood Lane, Greenbelt, MD 20770

Time: 3:00 – 4:00 p.m.

When: Tuesday and Thursday 

Beginning September 8, 2016

Students should bring:
 Homework, School Work and Questions

Individual Tutoring
Interested youths are matched with community volunteers who assist with academic work and help motivate the student. Both group and individual sessions are available. Sessions are conducted exclusively in public places such as local libraries.

Volunteer Tutors
Volunteer tutors are recruited from Greenbelt and surrounding communities as well as the University of Maryland. Tutor training workshops are conducted throughout the year.

Summer Educational Enrichment Program
(Tutoring Camp!)

What: A tutoring program for children completing grades 1-5*
*Children in grades 8-12 may assist as tutors and earn community service credit

When: Wednesday morning, from July 6, 2016 - July 27, 2016
9:00: a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Where: Springhill Lake Recreation Center Clubhouse, 6101 Cherrywood Lane, Greenbelt, MD 20770

Camp Dates:   Wednesday, July 6
                         Wednesday, July 13
                         Wednesday, July 20
                         Wednesday, July 27

The Program: Greenbelt CARES will offer a summer tutoring experience for students completing grades 1-5. The children are split into groups (1st and 2nd are together, 3rd and 4th graders are together and the 5th graders work by themselves). The schedule:
9:00 – 10:00 English grammar and writing skills
10:00 - 11:00 Reading/literature
11:00 – 12:00 Math

Supervision: The program is coordinated and supervised by Judith S. Hering, M.S., Vocational/Educational Counselor for Greenbelt CARES Youth and Family Services Bureau. High school student service-learning interns provide additional assistance.

Cost: This cost of the entire program is $15, which covers the cost of instructional materials.
