Location

The City of Greenbelt is a suburb of Washington, D.C., located within Prince George's County, one of the largest and fastest growing counties in the country. Greenbelt is the intersecting point for four major highways, including the Baltimore-Washington Parkway and the Capital Beltway. As such, rapid access to much of the metropolitan area is available.

Transportation
A new station for the New York to Washington high speed Metroliner is located only two miles from the city. The Greenbelt METRO station provides rapid rail transit to Washington and is part of the METRO RAIL system.

This area is served by three major airports, two which are located less than 30 minutes from Greenbelt.

Greenbelt residents enjoy, therefore, speedy access to employment centers throughout the area.

Employment
In addition, a number of major employment centers, including the Goddard Space Flight Center of NASA, the Department of Agriculture Research Center, and the University of Maryland are located just outside the city limits.

Housing
The original housing of this planned community, now operated by a cooperative, offers residents low-cost townhouse living in a financial arrangement that offers the best features of home ownership (your own home and yard with your monthly payments becoming equity in you property) and the best features of renting (heating, plumbing and structural maintenance performed by the cooperative). There is a wide variety of housing located elsewhere in the city, but in the vicinity of original Greenbelt.

Recreation
Cultural and recreational facilities are extensive in Greenbelt. The city operates one of the finest small city recreation programs in the country. City recreation facilities include two recreation centers, a community center, an indoor and outdoor swimming pool, a fitness center, extensive ball fields, 23 playgrounds, 190 acres of parkland (including scenic Greenbelt Lake), an 1,100-acre National Park (Greenbelt National Park) which Prince George's County provides additional facilities including a quality school system from kindergarten through junior college.

A major county branch library is located in the center of town. The many cultural and recreational facilities of the University of Maryland and the cities of Washington, D.C., Baltimore, and Annapolis, Maryland are easily accessible.
