Food Forest Volunteer Workday

August 18th, 2018

Volunteers are needed to remove unwanted plants, mulch trails, and maintain trees at the Greenbelt Food Forest located at Buddy Attick Park 555 Crescent Rd Greenbelt, MD 20770. This event will be from 10am - 1pm.

Reminders:
- Wear weather appropriate clothing and closed toed shoes.
- Bring a reusable water bottle.
- Students bring your service hour forms.

Volunteers are needed for a service-learning workday to help clear the Food Forest behind Springhill Lake Recreation Center of weeds and invasive plants. Help us make the Food Forest a safer place for everyone by pulling, cutting, mulching selected areas to deter invasive plants such as porcelain berry and mile a minute vines. This event will be held 10am-12:30pm. The Springhill Lake Recreation Center is located at 6101 Cherrywood Lane Greenbelt, MD 20770.

Vermicomposting Workshop
July 28th, 2018

Come learn how you can compost indoors using worms! There will be an informative presentation followed by a workshop where you can build and take home your own in home vermicomposting kit, worms included! This workshop will be held at the Public Works Facility at 555 Crescent Road Greenbelt, MD 20770 from 12pm - 2pm. RSVP by July 13th. Only Prince George's County residents who RSVP are eligible for a free kit.

Pollinator Conference

June 30th, 2018

Join the Department of Public Works, MNCPPC, Prince George’s Co. Department of the Environment, Master Gardeners, and more for a day all about pollinators. There will be experts on hand to educate and answer questions about pollinator conservation. There will be a walking tour of the pollinator garden at Buddy Attick Park. This event starts at 10am and ends at 1pm.

GREENBELT FOREST STEWARDSHIP PROJECT

 Forest Steward Volunteers are needed for the projects listed below:
  • Plant species native to Maryland
  • Learn to identify and remove invasive plant species
  • Protect trees from beaver overpopulation
  • Manage community gardens and compost piles
  • Collect and add data to the City of Greenbelt’s GIS inventory
  • Beautify Greenbelt by picking up trash
  • Promote zero waste at festivals and events
