Burglar Alarm Licensing
The city has recently established a non-residential burglar alarm licensing and false alarm reduction program. Fines are levied for repeat false alarms. For further call 301-345-5417.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR NON RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY AND
HOLDUP ALARM REGISTRATION

This form is to be used to register/re-register non-residential burglary, robbery, panic, and duress alarm systems. The registration/re-registration permit fee is $100.00, and is non-refundable. One application must be submitted for each alarmed non-residential location in the City of Greenbelt and the $100.00 fee must accompany each application. Please make the check or money order payable to City of Greenbelt. There is a $25.00 fee for returned checks. Credit cards are not accepted.
- Non-Residential Alarm User Information Indicate the name, complete address and phone number of the business where the registered alarm is located.
- Type of business - Indicate type of business (i.e., computer sales, clothing store, etc.)
Employer ID# - Indicate the employer identification number of the business
Business Trade Name (If different) Indicate the trade name of the business if it is different than the alarm user’s name.
2. Parent company Name Indicate the trade name of the business if it is different than the alarm user’s name.
3. Owner/President of Business Alarm Location Indicate the name, work numbers of the owner, president, or person responsible on a corporate level for the alarm system at the alarm address.
4. Name and Address of Responsible Billing Party Indicate the name, mailing address, and telephone number of the person responsible for paying fines or fees for the alarm system.
5. Special Conditions Indicate any unusual circumstances that should be considered when responding to an alarm at the business alarm address such as: watch dogs, security guards, weapons, hazardous\material, etc.
6. List Three Persons to Contact in the Event of an Alarm List the names and phone numbers or pager numbers to reach the three persons who are able to and have agreed to perform the following actions. Please note, an alarm company may be named in lieu of one person.
(a) Receive notification of an alarm activation at any time;
(b) Respond to the alarm site within one hour; and
(c) Grant access to the alarm site and deactivate the alarm system if it becomes necessary.
7. Have You Previously Registered an Alarm System in the City of Greenbelt? Check Yes or No. If you have previously registered an alarm system, please enter the registration number.
8. Alarm Installation Company Indicate the name, Prince George’s County Alarm Business License Number, address, and phone number of the alarm company that installed the alarm system.
9. Monitoring Company Indicate the name, Prince George’s County Alarm Business License Number, address, and phone number of the alarm company that monitors the alarm system , if different than the alarm installation company.
10. Signature/Date To be signed and dated by the owner/president of the business at the alarm address. |

Synopsis of the City of Greenbelt Alarm Law, City Code Chapter 10
Every alarm user must register their alarm and pay the registration fee with the City of Greenbelt, False Alarm Reduction Unit before the user begins using their system. The information in the application shall be maintained current at all times. Any changes in the application must be forward to the False Alarm Reduction Unit, 15 Crescent Road, Suite 200, Greenbelt, MD 20770.

Alarm users must have their alarm systems inspected by a licensed alarm business after 6 false alarms from the system in a 365-day period.
Alarm users must have their alarm systems upgraded to meet the standards established under Subtitle 9 Sections 130-141 of the Prince George’s County Code after the 12th false alarm activation in a 365-day period.
An alarm business must not install or maintain, and an alarm user must not use, an audible system which can sound continuously for more than 30 minutes.
An alarm user permit is valid only for the premises registered and is NOT transferable to another alarm user or premises. A new permit must be obtained for each alarm site.
Failure to register/re-register an alarm system, pay alarm response fees, or meet other requirements detailed in the City Code, will subject the alarm user to additional fines and/or the revocation of police response to future alarm activations. |

LICENSE REGISTRATION

This form is to be completed for registration/re-registration for alarm businesses which monitor or operate residential or non-residential alarm systems within the corporate city limits of Greenbelt, Maryland. The non-refundable biennial license fee for each business is $300.00. Please make your check or money order payable to the City of Greenbelt and return with application to the False Alarm Reduction Unit, 15 Crescent Road, Suite 200, Greenbelt, MD 20770. There is a $25.00 fee for returned checks. Credit cards are not accepted.
- Alarm Business Information: Indicate the name, complete address, fax and telephone number of the alarm business. Type of business organization (sole proprietorship, partnership, or corporation). Employer ID number (EIN)
- Active customers: List the number of active residential and nonresidential alarm customers in the city with which the alarm business conducts business.
- Responsible Party: Please indicate the name, address and fax and telephone number of the official responsible for the operation of the alarm business.
- Background Check: Acknowledge that no employee of the alarm business has been convicted of a felony or a misdemeanor of theft within the preceding seven (7) years.
- Resident Agent: An alarm business that is incorporated in a state other than Maryland must include on the license application form the name and address of the Resident Agent located in Maryland.
- Associated Alarm Businesses: Indicate the name, address, fax and telephone number, and alarm business license number of all associated (contracted) alarm business that may alter, install, lease, maintain, monitor, repair, replace, sell at retail, service or respond to an alarm system in the city.
- Signature/Date: To be signed and dated by the owner/president of the alarm business.
