Message from the Chief

On behalf of the men and women of the Greenbelt Police Department I am pleased to welcome you to our internet web site. Our site has been developed to provide you with timely information on the Department and its many programs. The Department employs 54 sworn officers and 15 support personnel who serve a community of approximately 22,000 residents over 6.5 square miles. Greenbelt is situated in northern Prince George's County, approximately 12 miles northeast of Washington, D.C., 26 miles southwest of Baltimore , and 22 miles west of Annapolis , the State capital.

The Department is recognized as a contemporary, award winning agency with dedicated employees responsive to the community who constantly strive to make Greenbelt a better and safer place for those who live, work or visit. As part of our commitment to the concepts of community policing, the Department continually seeks ways to make its officers more effective by placing them in close contact with the people we serve.  Apart from the normal police patrols, the Department also deploys bicycle patrols, School Resources Officers in our schools, public/private partnerships with businesses to share the cost of officers, and a Crime Prevention Officer who engages businesses, homeowners associations and others in ways to protect themselves and their possessions.

Thank you for visiting our website and feel free to offer your comments as to how we may serve you in the future.

Chief James Craze can be reached at jcraze@greenbeltmd.gov
