OATH OF OFFICE
01 Policy: Any employee, prior to assuming sworn status, will take and abide by an oath of office to enforce the laws of the City and State government, and to uphold the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Maryland. (CALEA 1.1.1)
02 Procedure: The oath of office will be administered by the Mayor of the City of Greenbelt, Maryland.
03 The Oath: “I swear (or affirm) that I will support the Constitution of the United States, and that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to the State of Maryland and support the Constitution and laws thereof; and that I will, to the best of my skill and judgment diligently and faithfully, without partiality or prejudice, execute the office of police officer according to the Constitution and laws of this State.”
04 Certification: Certification that the oath was taken will be filed in each officer’s personnel file.
