GREENBELT POLICE DEPARTMENT
GREENBELT DISPATCHER NAMED COUNTY CIVILIAN OF THE YEAR
Communications Specialist II Shaniya Lashley-Mullen was named Civilian of the Year at the Police Chiefs’ Association of Prince George’s County Annual Awards Program, held May 24 th at the Prince George’s Ballroom, Landover, MD.
Shaniya, who has been employed by the Greenbelt Police Department since 2002, was nominated by Communications Supervisor Alicia Coville for her exemplary performance. She has been a model employee and a leader within the Communications Unit, “stepping up to the plate” to fill many vacancies during critical shortages in Communications to ensure that there is proper coverage in the Unit. This often involves sacrificing her time away from her family.
Mrs. Lashley-Mullen has received two formal recognitions, including a letter of Commendation for her performance during a high-speed pursuit involving felonious assault suspects who attempted to strike an officer; and a letter of Appreciation for her efforts in helping to locate a missing autistic child on the evening of April 18 th, 2005.
Mrs. Lashley-Mullen was also recognized for her training of new dispatchers, never complaining of the increased workload necessary to train new personnel.
