PRESS RELEASE
GREENBELT POLICE DEPARTMENT
GREENBELT POLICE TO HOLD "MOCK" ASSESSMENT FOR CALEA CERTIFICATION
The Greenbelt Police Department will be holding a “mock” on-site assessment May 1-3, 2006 as part of our ongoing effort to become the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). CALEA has 446 professional standards that agencies need to come into compliance with in order to be accredited. The accreditation process has five phases, Application, Self-Assessment, On-Site, Commission Review and Decision, and Maintaining Compliance and Reaccredidation. A “mock” assessment is when local experienced CALEA Assessors and Accreditation Managers review the Agencies policies and “proofs of compliance” files to assist the Department in preparing for the formal CALEA on-site review. The Department is tentatively scheduled for an August 2006 formal on-site. If all goes as anticipated the Department’s Commission Hearing will be in November 2006.
