GREENBELT CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT Greenbelt Detective Edward Holland Selected as the American Legion’s Prince George’s County Officer of the Year 2007 Master Police Officer Edward L. Holland was recently selected by the American Legion as the Prince George’s County Officer of the Year 2007 and he was so honored at a ceremony held at the Greenbelt American Legion on April 14th this year. Detective Ed Holland was chosen for his outstanding accomplishments as a detective. Having been selected as the Greenbelt Police Department’s Officer of the Year 2007, his nomination was submitted to the American Legion. The emphasis of The American Legion Department of Maryland Law Enforcement Officer of the Year Program is not only for a single act of bravery or a single distinguishing event, but how Law Enforcement Officers excel in the daily performance of the duties. Detective Ed Holland is a seventeen-year veteran having joined the Greenbelt Police Department in September of 1990. Prior to coming to Greenbelt, MPO Holland served five years with the Prince George’s County Police Department and five years with the Sheriff’s Department prior to that. Detective Holland was nominated for the Officer of the Year 2007 for his investigative skills, which led to the arrest of the suspect responsible for the murder that occurred March 17th at the Greenway Shopping Center. Officers responding for the report of a shooting located the victim in a vehicle in the parking lot. After four months of intensive investigation, Detective Holland was able to identify, locate and apprehend the person responsible.
