PRESS RELEASE GREENBELT CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT Officer alerts citizens to out of control vehicle; rescues driver suffering from medical emergency
The officer then responded to the vehicle to check on the driver. It was discovered that the driver had no pulse and was not breathing. Peck, who had recently returned from a tour of duty in Iraq where he served as Navy medic assigned to the United States Marine Corp, immediately began performing CPR, along with two Maryland National Capital Park Police Officers who responded to the scene to assist. When the victim failed to respond to the officers’ CPR attempts, Officer Peck retrieved the AED (Automated External Defibrillator) from his cruiser and continued to render aid. The AED proved effective, as the victim began breathing on his own. The victim, a 74 year old College Park, MD man, was then transported by ambulance to Doctor’s Community Hospital for treatment. The Department has six AEDs, with one at the police station, one at the Beltway Plaza sub-station, and each of the remaining four assigned to each patrol squad. Prepared by MPO George Mathews
