WHAT IS SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY?
Anything that makes you look twice. Trust your instincts. If an event or situations appears suspicious to you, it probably will to us, too.
- Sounds (Breaking of glass, vehicle/residential alarms, the sound of gunshots, verbal arguments, shouts for help).
- Sights (People loitering, solicitors, vehicles idling, subjects who appear to be tampering with vehicles).
- Don’t assume that someone else will call; YOU make the call!
- Don’t put yourself in harm’s way. Report the suspicious activity; give the dispatcher as much information as you SAFELY can (Location, circumstances, physical descriptions, any weapons involved, any injuries, etc.). It’s YOUR job to be concerned. It’s OUR job to be nosy and investigate things further.
- Our non-emergency number is 301-474-7200 . Our EMERGENCY number is 301-474-5454 . We consider an emergency to be a crime in progress or a life-threatening situation. If you are unsure whether a situation is an emergency or not, err on the side of caution and call the emergency number.
- Remember, a call that turns out to be nothing is better than no one calling at all.
