The Public Works Department is responsible for the construction, maintenance, and preservation of the physical condition of the City. This includes: Street maintenance; refuse and special trash collection; snow removal; leaf, brush and yard waste collection; grass mowing; street, sidewalk, curb and gutter repair; road signage and traffic lane marking; fleet maintenance; beautification landscaping, tree planting and grounds maintenance; intra-city transit (Greenbelt Connection); ball field and park facilities maintenance; recreation facilities, maintenance; and oversight of recycled waste material collection. The Public Works Department is located at 555 Crescent Road and can be reached at 301-474-8004.

Public Works Open House, Satuday, April 21st from 10am-2pm at the Public Works facility. Bring the family and enjoy tours, demonstrations, climb on trucks and have a hot dog!
Earth Day, Arbor Day and the Celebration of Spring, Saturday, April 21st from 2-6pm at the Springhill Lake Recreation Center. Enjoy entertainment, make and take art activities, inflatables and games. with help from the Chesapeake Education Arts Research Society (CHEARS), Citizens to Conserve and Restore Indian Creek (CCRIC), Camp Fire USA and anyone else that would liek to join in, the Public Works Department will install a rain garden on the grounds of the Springhill Lake Recreation Center from 2-4. Everyone is welcome to help out and celebrate Earth Day.
Electronics Recycling, Saturday, April 28, 2012 from 9:00am-12noon, Public Works Facility, 555 Crescent Road . City residents, businesses and organizations can recycle old and/or unwanted computers and other electronic items. Accepted items include: TVs, CPUs, monitors, keyboards, mice printers, laptop computers, recording equipment, speakers, scanners, surge protectors, wires and power cords fax machines, cameras, telephones, radios, DVD players, VCRs, batteries taped on one end, expanded polystyrene (block “Styrofoam” #6) – NO cups, egg-cartons, or food trays.
Community Shred: Saturday, May 5th from 9am-12 noon in the Roosevel Center parking lot behind the Greenbelt Federal Credit Union (GFCU). Bring up to 5 boxes of personal records to be shredded for free. No businesses. Sponsored by the GFCU.
