The IRA, ETA, the Kosovo Liberation Army in Serbia and nationalist movements in Scotland, Corsica (France) and Chechnya (Russia) have flourished. Other parties have fought for independence. In the Middle East, Hezbollah in Lebanon and Palestinian groups have fought against the state of Israel since its existence. Islamic movements that pre-date Al Qaeda have long existed in the northern African countries of Algeria and Egypt.
