History of the Building
The Greenbelt Community Center was built in 1937 as the original Greenbelt Elementary School. The school also served as the center for the community, a place where residents would gather for dances, use the library, or attend religious functions and meetings.
When a new elementary school was built in 1991, the city acquired grants and other funds from numerous sources to help refurbish this historic building to its present status as the Greenbelt Community Center.
The Community Center Today
Today, the center continues to serve as an integral and active element of the Greenbelt Community. There are many rooms within the facility to rent for alcohol-free, family-friendly events and meetings. In addition, the Greenbelt Community Center is home the City's Planning and Community Development Department, the Greenbelt News Review, Recreational Offices, the Senior Center, Greenbelt Access Television, Artist in Residence Studios and more.
The facility is currently CLOSED due to COVID-19. Please call 301-474-0646 for updates.
The Business Office is open Monday-Friday from 9:00am-4:30pm.
The Greenbelt Community Center is the perfect place for your next family gathering. With several rooms available for hourly rental, it is ideal for birthday parties, baby showers, family reunions or celebrations. The center is an alcohol-free facility.
