Outstanding Citizen Nominations
Greenbelt’s Outstanding Citizen of the Year
June 4, 2019
All of us have had the opportunity to be associated with individuals from Greenbelt who have distinguished themselves for their outstanding volunteer service to our community. Rarely do these people receive the recognition they deserve.
Each year, Greenbelt’s Outstanding Citizen Selection Committee chooses a volunteer to receive this honor, which is announced at the Opening Ceremonies of the annual Labor Day Festival. We strive to make this a memorable event for the honoree. State and local officials bestow congratulatory citations and proclamations on the Outstanding Citizen. In addition to receiving special gifts, the honoree’s name is added to a permanent plaque located in the Community Center, and the honoree serves as the Grand Marshal for the Labor Day Parade.
We need your input to make this wonderful award a reality for Greenbelt’s most deserving person. Describe in your own words those acts of exceptional kindness and tireless energy that your nominee has shown. Such acts could include organizing a program for the benefit of our community, giving time and talent to teach, lending a helping hand to those in need, or just making the special effort to ensure that “good things happen” for others. Age is not a criterion; we encourage nominations of young adults who have made significant contributions to the Greenbelt community.
Please take this opportunity to write us about someone you believe should be honored as Greenbelt’s Outstanding Citizen for 2019. The enclosed nomination form details information we need to learn about your nominee. The deadline for submission is July 29, 2019.
We hope we can count on you to keep this one of Greenbelt’s truly special events.
