The Animal Control Division prides itself on being ethical and humane in its treatment of animals, including providing positive reinforcement training techniques. The City of Greenbelt uses two veterinarian practices to assist us in providing care and treatment of animals.
Greenbelt Animal Control operates a no kill for convenience organization. Every effort is made to place adoptable animals with appropriate adoptive homes. Adoptable animals can be visited at any time by appointment.
Open Visitations are Wednesdays from 4pm-7pm and on Saturdays from 9am-12pm. Please call 301-474-6124. You may also make an appointment by calling 240-553-7811 or use the "Book Now" button on the Animal Shelter Facebook page.
The Animal Shelter is in need of:
Towels, blankets (that can be washed), dog toys, cat toys, pine cat litter, wet cat food (any brand), Authority Cat Food (dry), Authority Dog Food (dry), Kongs (all sizes), essential oils that can be used for enrichment such as lemon, lavender, vanilla, feliway plug in for cats, pheromone plug ins for dogs, laundry detergent, bleach, dishwashing liquid, dog treats, peanut butter.
Special items (in no particular order):
Go pro camera; we are looking to improve our cat rooms and any money ear marked for the project will be put towards improving our catteries (checks can be made out to WAGS); iTunes gift cards (for calming shelter music); money for a feral cat housing program.
- All animals that are adopted will be spayed or neutered if they are over six months old
- All animals are given age appropriate vaccinations and immunizations
- Animals receive medical treatment as appropriate. Every effort is made to identify and disclose all pre-existing medical and behavioral conditions prior to adoption
